As we emerge from the pandemic our Special Interest Groups are slowly resuming in person meetings. For current details, check the Branch Calendar and/or go to the group contact.

Afternoon Book Group

Books chosen in June by members are reviewed by a member each month. This group meets October through June on the first Tuesday of the month at 1:00 pm at a member’s home, with a few exceptions. See calendar for specific dates, times, books and locations. Contact Lorraine.

Chefs at Home
This group plans and prepares gourmet meals in each other‘s homes. Contact Joan for details.

Cuisine Club
The group dines out seven or eight times, starting in September or October and ending in May. Members take turns hosting, which involves contacting members by e-mail, making reservations with a restaurant (your choice or one suggested by the group), and being there. Contact Joyce.

Culture Vultures
AAUW members have the first option to reserve space for themselves and friends on trips to blockbuster art exhibitions, cultural events, beautiful historic sites and gardens in the tri-state area and internationally. Suggestions for future trips are always welcome. Contact Barb.

Friday, May 6 – Tuesday, May 10, 2022: Travel to Savannah, Georgia. Highlights planned will include the Historic District Trolley Tour, City Market, Dessert Tour. Choice on Tour: First African Baptist Church or Ships of the Sea Maritime Museum, Pin Point. Essential Experiences will include relaxing on Tybee Island before leaving by boat to search for playful pods of dolphins along the coast. Thursday, June 9, 2022: Travel to Frank Lloyd Wright’s Fallingwater and Kentuck Knob. Fallingwater is a house designed by the architect Frank Lloyd Wright in 1939 in the Laurel Highlands of southwest Pennsylvania. Nearby, Kentuck Knob is situated just below the crest of the hill, appears almost part of the mountain itself and stands 2,050 feet above sea level. Reservation deadline: May 5, 2022. Dine Around
This group meets once or twice monthly to enjoy great meals and lively conversation at a wide variety of local and regional restaurants, with dinners on the second Wednesday and lunches on the fourth Wednesday.  All group members receive email notices of venues and dates. See calendar for details. Fine Film Group

The group meets once a month, usually at the Midtown Cinema, usually a matinee, for a movie, coffee, and conversation. Contact Erica.

Morning Paperback Book Group
The morning paperback book group meets monthly to discuss books members have selected.  This group reads fiction, literature, and discuss in-depth ideas and structure of current books and classics. Meets September through June (except December) on the third Thursday of the month at 10 am.  See calendar for specific dates, times, books and locations. Contact Dorothy.

Nonfiction Book Group
Nonfiction books are chosen by members and are reviewed by a member. This group meets at 1 pm from September through May (except December) on the 1st Thursday of the month. Walking Group
If you would enjoy occasional walking excursions with AAUW companions, this group is for you. Anyone may propose a walk (or even a hike) and we’ll see who would like to go along.
